This is a still from my short film “Labinlima” (Fifteen).  Something has to be done.  I was very surprised by this family cause the kids are able to read… although I was not sure if they were able to grasp everything they read but at least they can understand the words both english and tagalog.  I did not set out to make an film about the Reproductive Health (RH) bill but I think if you see it, it will make you think about it.  I understad the religion plays a role in the moral sensibilities of its followers.  I believe in freedom, and freedom is not something to be abused, freedom does not mean you can shout fire in a crowded auditorium. Freedom is the ability to chose.  When the state denies you the freedom of choice, the we are saying it is ok for the people in power to dictate our traditions, beliefs and at the end our culture.  

The second picture was taken in their home it reads ” I is a Filipino I will be fair for wat is right I’ll always care I will be jast and not oppress others”  The one who wrote this was 10 year old Melyza.  When I asked her if she understood what she wrote she just gave a smile of either embarrassments or shyness.  These are deeps words coming from a family that got dealt a bad hand.  But even with that band hand there is a deep sensibility of what is right.  I hope we can help this family is some way, shape or form and create a domino effect in slowly making sure that people are given a chance to get dealt a new hand.
